In contacting me you understand the following:

Not all of my DVDs copy, sometimes I only know this at the time of copying! If this happens, I will only help you regarding the said DVD. You will get all other DVDs ordered as planned and be asked to choose a replacement.

Regarding Grades, most of my grades have been taken from other people's views on the DVD, I do not have time to watch every single show, but I do try my best to watch them. I'm getting through them slowly and can't wait to have them all watched. I am a big theatre fan, but I have a life also. Some information about the DVD is also taken from a site of a trader who has almost every DVD, although some is taken from the person I got the disc from..So if information is incorrect, I'm sorry and will replace disc. Also take into consideration some of the ages of the videos. Meaning an A back in 2005 is going to be about a B in 2011 due to the filming equiptment nowadays.

I will try and help you in any way I can, just ask :D

January 1989 ~ New York
This Off-Broadway musical, performed at the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York centers around a group of everyday average people who live forever. Some generational loss, filmed from the far right side B-

Recorded from a tripod in the back of the house. Some generational loss; a 90 minute pop-musical comedy best described as the theatrical lovechild of Showgirls, Beautiful Thing and Hedwig. Star-struck Jack Harmony wins Video Dance Television’s “Be a Star” contest and gets sucked into the outrageous world of pop sensation Sexxx Machine. Jack’s lovelorn best friend and conservative parents worry that he will be tempted by Sexx Machine's deviant rock 'n' roll lifestyle and, sure enough, their worst fears come true! B

Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty, Marc Kudisch, Andy Karl, Kathy Fitzgerald, Ioana Alfonso, Dan Cooney, Ann Harada, Van Hughes, Karen Murphy, Charlie Pollock, Tory Ross, Maia Nkenge Wilson, Timothy George Anderson, Justin Bohon, Lisa Howard
Filmed in 16:9 widescreen. Shot during previews, so many bits of dialogue are different from what they ended up with. This was also before they changed the ending of Out of Control when Stephanie got to sing that really high note at the end. But a fantastic, great energy performance, especially from the three leads; minor obstruction by a head, but is well shot around. Mostly steady filming with a good mix of wide and zoomed shots. Excellent sound; fun ad-libs, nice video A

Act One only of the Broadway opening night; shot in 16:9 widescreen. Cover ups during "9 to 5", the second half of "I Just Might" and the scene right before "Backwoods Barbie" and about a minute at the end of the dream sequences; camera also wanders sometimes and heads in the wide shots when taper
zoomed out to get the whole picture; DVD includes "Get Out and Stay Out" from the April 17th performance with Gaelen Gilliland as Judy. Well-shot from the orchestra. There is sometimes the top of a head at the bottom of the screen, but it never blocks Gaelen. B

Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty, Marc Kudisch, Kathy Fitzgerald, Andy Karl

Filmed in 16:9 widescreen. Minor and only occasional obstruction from a head in front of taper; almost no blackouts with clear audio and mix of close-ups and wider shots; nice flub: "Gaelen's scarf got tangled on her microphone wire and it took Allison a very long time to untie it, and by that time, she'd adlibbed her way out of it and then collapsed in a heap of laughter." Good video A

9 to 5:The Musical

Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty, Marc Kudisch, Kathy Fitzgerald, Andy Karl, Ioana Alfonso, Lisa Howard, Van Hughes, Karen Murphy, Charlie Pollock, Tory Ross
Final Broadway performance filmed in 16:9 widescreen. Few obstructions -- only in the wide shots when there are two heads on either side of the frame; about 2 minutes of blackout when some commotion happened nearby involving an audience member taking pictures with his LCD screen on; one other very brief blackout in the scene before "Around Here" when latecomers arrived. Otherwise, the video is intact and includes some of curtain call. External audio fed into video from MD recorder, so audio is very clear.A mix of close-ups and wider shots when multiple people were on stage to see their interactions. A

Good capture of the tour with all of the changes from the Broadway production with several scenes and songs were cut or moved, and there are a few lyric and dialog changes. Filmed fifteen feet away from the stage, heads, seats and other random things in frame, mostly clear shot center stage with extreme sides out of view, some cover-ups and some action not caught in the frame, dvd is a bag of mixed nuts but still worth having, very cute show. Also can be mistakenly dated 5/22/08. C

Ballroom
1991 ~ Long Beach, CA
Tyne Daly, Charles Durning
Shot from upper House left balcony. Okay video that never gets too close to the action, but the sound is good. However, the script is vastly rewritten and the only about a 1/3 of the original score remains, being replaced by vastly superior songs that have character and plot relevance. That makes this a
slightly difficult watch but a very rewarding one. B

This was supposedly recorded specifically for the Shubert Theatre Organization for their archives. Great audio and video. However, taper always focuses on Lumiere whenever he makes an appearance, which disrupts the storyflow a little, especially during the finale, where the camera is fully concentrated on Lumiere and not Belle and the Beast.

Shot from the left orchestra but only about a minute of action is missed (when Gaston and the Beast climb the "roof" during the final fight). Audio starts before Belle's father leaves for the fair but filming doesn't start until after Maurice is in the castle. Lots of ushers so about four or five coverups during the first act, usually less than a minute long at the end of a song and nothing major is missed. The second act is filmed better with only one coverup during the show and one at curtain calls; good picture and sound throughout A-

Beauty and the Beast
7/27/07 ~ Broadway
Steve Blanchard, Anneliese van der Pol, Chris Hoch, David deVries, Jeanne Lehman, Glenn Rainey, Jamie Ross, Trevor Braun, Aldrin Gonzalez, Ann Mandrella
Good amount of closeups and good quality filmed from the mid-mezzanine; there is a railing issue for a while in Act 1 but the taper improves; taper sometimes loses attention to the show at times and it is a little shaky; erratic and random coverups, and 'Me', 'Gaston' and 'Be Our Guest' are all predominantly missing and recording stopped for some time after 'Gaston', which created a little jump in the timeline to where Maurice gets thrown out of the tavern. Very little closeups during 'Human Again’ but a nice video of the last Broadway cast B

From the taper: Starts at the end of Billy’s boxing lesson, mostly cover-ups until earnest filming starts at “Solidarity”. Various other cover-ups scattered throughout because of aforementioned ushers but most of the dance numbers are perfect. Includes the dance megamix after curtain. A nice mix of full, mid and close shots to match the action. Right third of stage blocked by a head, but that rarely matters. Incredible close-ups when the situation calls (want to read Billy’s acceptance letter?). Steady filming and very little spotlight washout. B+

Blood Brothers
1994 ~ Australia
David Soul, Delia Hannah, Stefan Dennis, Ross Girven, Tina Regtien
The first act was filmed in Melbourne, from the balcony. Decent quality, but it follows the action loosely. The second act is choppy bits and pieces, and was filmed in Sydney, where David Soul
took over the role of the 'Narrator.' The footage of the second act is taken from the wings, backstage, behind the backdrops, and the stage manager's booth. In addition to seeing the action onstage, you see actors waiting to enter and exit, and crew members doing quick changes, etc. About 85% of the show. Also includes a footage from backstage interviewing cast and crew members, a bit of rehearsal/set construction, and some footage from outside of the theatre. Also includes footage of members from the cast rehearsing/performing at what looks to be a church. Decent quality throughout, the audio and video are very slightly out of sync. B

Interesting collection of footage from various old Broadway shows, most probably filmed by a cast member. Included: Black and white footage of a GYPSY rehearsal with Ethel Merman and the original Broadway cast, and some bootlegged color footage from the show, all with music from the cast album playing over the silent footage; Color silent footage of MAME with Angela Lansbury and Bea Arthur filmed from the balcony and some from the wings and some candid footage before the show with Lansbury; Rare color footage, also silent, of Angela Lansbury and the original Broadway cast of DEAR WORLD during a rehearsal; More rare footage of Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera, this time in color with full sound of a rehearsal of CHICAGO with full orchestra, cast and costumes on stage. There's a number with Chita Rivera which never made it to the final show, as well as some other scenes which didn't make the final cut either. You can even hear Bob Fosse stopping the action a few times to give stage directions.
